Black Cat Harmony is a friendly and supportive award-winning mixed voice chorus based in Bedfordshire. Founded in 2017, we sing a cappella (unaccompanied) songs mostly in four part arrangements. We enjoy competing at local and national singing events several times a year. Our members come from quite a wide geographic area and most of our members are current or former members of established men’s and ladies’ barbershop choruses from BABS, LABBS and Sweet Adelines, including A1 Acappella (St Neots), Phoenix Chorus (Biggleswade), London City Singers (London), Royal Harmonics (Windsor), Rhapsody Chorus (Peterborough), Fine City Chorus (Norwich), The VIPs (Ipswich), East Coast Collective (Ipswich), Welwyn Harmony, Junction 14 (Milton Keynes), MK Acapella (Milton Keynes), and more.
We usually rehearse in Eaton Socon (just south of St Neots) on the second Saturday of every month. We also have optional rehearsals in Moggerhanger (a few miles east of Bedford) once a month on Monday evenings. We don't have 'terms' or 'seasons'.
Details of the times and locations of our upcoming rehearsals are here.
Our members are expected to do much of their song-learning in their own time using good quality learning materials (sheet music and teach tracks). Although it is helpful to be able to read sheet music, this really isn’t a requirement.
Graham Davies, our Chorus Director, gives us expert vocal coaching and is happy to hold extra sessions between our monthly rehearsals to help and support anyone who needs it.
Chorus membership is open to anyone, regardless of ability, but inclusion within the performing, and particularly the competing chorus, is dependant upon meeting the minimum standard required, which will be explained to anyone interested in joining us. Support will be provided to help with this, if needed.
We're currently recruiting all parts, so if you think you might like to join this friendly, welcoming chorus on our exciting journey of growth and improvement, please get in touch with Graham (his contact details are here) to have a chat and arrange a visit to one of our rehearsals.
If you’re putting on a concert and would like us to sing a few songs for your audience, please get in touch.
